Visiting Tuyen Lam lake and its trench near Dalat

It has been over a year since I visited Dalat last time and to be honest I missed it, I missed the cool weather and some of my friends who live there. But, this summer vacation I had opportunity to visit it again and although I hate travelling by bus for 8 hours, I am not sorry at all. Why? Because I visited a wonderful place. I am not talking about Dalat city itself, but about Tuyen Lam lake.

The wonderful part is not the lake itself, although it is a beautiful lake, but the trench built in its vicinity.

In this picture you can see the entrance in the trench. It doesn’t look very spectacular in the picture but you have to believe me, it is!

As you can see the landscape has a brownish color and that’s because everything is handmade out of clay mixed with cement.

The construction started in 2010 and it shows the formation and development of Dalat city. In this picture you can see two huge Piaggio Vespa made from clay. You can see how big they are in comparison with the kids.

Everything is built at a very big scale with a great amount of details. According to a local guide, the area in this picture is called “elephants in virgin forest”.

The entire length of the trench is about 1200 meters (that’s about three quarters of a mile) and walking through it makes you feel like you are in another world.

It looks like the trench is divided into sections, each section with its own architecture; architecture that is representative for Dalat city’s history and origin.

The trench is deep, around 12 meters deep at any point, and there are several large open spaces where surprisingly, there were no people … a good place to take a photo without having people in the background.

The trench is expected to be finished in 2014. However, in June 2014 it was still under construction but of course, opened for visitors.

Here you can see three workers working hard to complete a huge locomotive. If you look at the amount of details you know that this is not simple job and it won’t be finished soon.

All right, these are my thoughts about this wonderful place near Dalat and I highly recommend you to visit it, for sure you won’t regret.
